Started in 1906 as an institution dedicated to educating women, today Valdosta State University (Georgia) is proud of its diverse student body. Its Department of Music at offers an experience for music students looking for personal, high quality instruction. Featuring an award winning orchestra and high profi le jazz, choral and band programs, it provides high level performance experiences for students. The Department of Music at Valdosta State University is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, with a faculty of 32 artist teachers and over 170 music majors and minors. It presents over 150 musical performances for the public each year. In addition, several of the major performing ensembles of the department travel throughout Georgia, the Southeast, and abroad, performing for schools, civic groups, and as part of community concert series. The department offers a full range of instrumental and vocal performing ensembles, including the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra. Students graduating from high schools in Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee and are eligible for in-state tuition at Valdosta State University.

The Chamber Singers of Valdosta State University is the premier vocal ensemble of the university and is comprised of an elite group of vocalists (six singers per part) chosen by audition. Chamber Singers is one of fi ve choral ensembles in the Department of Music and represents the university through recordings and performances both on and off campus and yearly tours. The Chamber Singers of VSU have performed at such invitational events as the American Choral Directors Association and the Georgia Music Educators Association. They have also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. They are honored to be performing this year for the 2024 Lisbon Music Fest. The Valdosta State University Trombone Ensemble performs twice each semester on the campus of Valdosta State University and around the community for various events. The group is made up of trombone majors and has performed for the Georgia Music Educators conference on two occasions. Members of the ensemble are also a part of many other ensembles including the Blazin’ Brigade Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Combos, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra and other chamber music ensembles such as the Presidential Brass Quintet. The group is honored and excited to be performing with the VSU Chamber Singers on the 2024 summer tour to Portugal and Spain.
