Xavier College Choir and String Orchestra (Australia)

Nicholas Cowall (Choir), Andrew Schellhorn (Orchestra), direção

Xavier College is one of the finest schools in Australia and was founded in 1878 by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). A Jesuit education encourages the individual to develop his or her talents and fosters reflection so that the person’s heart, mind, body and spirit may become fully engaged to serve the wider world. Xavier College has provided over 140 years of quality music making and offers an exciting and diverse music curriculum across three campuses. Some one thousand students learn musical instruments throughout the College, and there are over fifty ensembles, bands, orchestras and choirs that allow a large number of students to perform across a wide range of musical genres. The touring Xavier College String Orchestra and Choir is made up of Year 9-12 boys who attend our Senior Campus. Members of the touring group enjoy performing a wide selection of repertoire and have recently performed Handel’s Messiah, Stanford’s Songs of the Sea, Mozart’s Sparrow Mass, Faure’s Requiem, Shostakovich’s Babi Yar Symphony, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Holst’s St Pauls Suite, Grieg’s Holberg Suite and movements from Peer Gynt
